Music at College Park is an expression and celebration of the diversity, uniqueness and talent of our pupils.

Music is used as an outlet of creativity and an opportunity to explore emotions and moods. Our pupils enjoy the sensory approach as well as the use of technology to perform and compose. Pupils are exposed to music history, theory and influential artists in order to draw on their techniques and musical concepts in their own compositions and instrumental choices.

Performance is a big part of the culture of the creative Arts department and we use these concerts to enhance our pupil’s independence and ownership of their creativity and responsibilities.

Music is the universal language that connects with our students on a deep and very important level, especial with those that struggle with communication.

Explore

Primary: Through the use of sensory stories, independent choosing of instruments and use of the musical elements, students can experience and discover music and make an impact on its delivery.

Secondary: We promote Self-guided learning covering the exploring component of the National curriculum using technology, a variety of instruments and recording programs.

Composition

Primary: Students make choices on sounds and instruments and use this to conduct their peers using varying dynamics and tempo to create their own individual pieces of music. Students also  use simplified musical notation and graphic scores to document their compositions.

Secondary: In line with the current topic and the National Curriculum students compose rhythms, chord progression and define their chosen genres. Using self-guided learning pupils document their compositions using garage band recordings and sampling. Secondary students are exposed to both graphic notation and musical scores.

Performance

All of our students take part in musical performances during concerts, assemblies and arts weeks. We also present large-scale Mid-year and Christmas productions that have been held venues such as the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith. We are also very involved in our partnerships with outside providers where pupils have an opportunity to perform with other schools in the Tri-borough area across the academic year.
